Ok.......Jasmine here, finally login in-must type something right? Ok, I think STD has a nice plot and characters, but not very interesting. Also, the vocab was probably suitable for a primary 4 kid. I prefer Charlotte's Web- way more unique and interesting. You should check it out.

Review on Sing To The Dawn..
Dawan, a young vilage girl in Thailand, wins a scholarship to study in the city school. Her brother, Kwai, came in second, causing a rift between the two previously-close siblings. This hostility is further exarcebated by Dawan's father, who feels that the city is no place for a girl. Dawan faces obstacles at every turn, and eventually overcomes these obstacles and proves to herself and to others that she is fully capable of handling the scholarship and the responsibility it entails

Hi!you don't need 2 noe who I am. I am posting because Miss teo wants us 2.I think STTD is a very short novel but very touching on how Kwai graciously let Dawan go to the city.I also like the part where Dawan's father let Dawan go to the city.At first, I thought Kwai was a big obnoxious boy, towards the end I realise he isn't like that after all.Never judge a book by its cover,i will remeber thst.

Thank's for creating this blog , Arel . The hmewk. for today is make a blog , do geogy page 45-49 ,math exy 5.1, chinese complete filing ( and remember to return it to me , Royston ), do the english file ( at least the vocab. part and 3 compre qs. each ) . Thats about that . Please do'nt ask me about the blog is optional or not . I also not too sure . And Mr Chew's Science WB ..
STTD is apretty good book . I , however , do not like the illustrations . The content emphasises on nature , especially frogs and pebbles . I like the last few chapters , because the tinge of sadness is just right , not too much or little . Minfong Ho has injected good descriptions but a lack of good vocab . - the book does not have any words sucked into my phrase book . The illustrations - in chap. III , the father repairing the coop is supposed to be worried right ? BUT he is seen to SMILE to Dawan after the cruel landlord took away his RICE ! Honestly , can you laugh when someone takes your favourite softoy ? Overall , the feelings were good but the illustrations were rather poor , full of loopholes . Out of a total of ten , I'll give it a 7.5 .
Anybody wants to act as either Kwai , Grandma , Father , Mother , Dawan or Vichai etc . ? If you do , just type your name and who you want to act as on the chat box , at around 4 - 10 pm. . If all seats are not filled by next Tuesday, voting shall take place .
Notes : No saboing , it must be volunterry . If my spelling is poor , please bear with it for a while . If there is any extra hmwk . , can the person post it up ? HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR !
Esmond . PS. Eh, Arel can have some Singlish ?

Hello!I'm Vivian.I don't like Kwai in Sing To The Dawn.Do you know why?Well...he is selfish, because he wanted the scholarship for himself even though he came in second and that Dawan actually won the scholarship.Dawan said that Kwai wanted the scholarship for himself and so Kwai was angry and pushed Dawan. He was a bit too impulsive! When it was raining and Dawan wanted to give Kwai an umbrella,he did not accept it.But...Kwai also has his good points. When their father told him that Kwai should have the scholarship, he did not want his father to know that he wanted the scholarship so he said that Dawan won the scholarship and that he should not accept it.I think that is about all I have to say about Kwai, bye bye!

Sing to the dawn is a really good book. It is about a girl, Dawan and her brother, Kwai fighting for the scholarship to the city. Dawan won first place but Kwai got in second. Dawan's father was furious upon knowing that she had the chance to study further instead of his son, Kwai. If Kwai told his father that he got in second, he would most likely have the chance to go instead. However, Kwai did not break the news to his father as he thought that his sister, Dawan, got in first so she deserved the rights to go. In the end, Dawan's father finally gave in and let her to the city. The ending, where Kwai bidded Dawan goodbye was rather touching to me. I recommend this book 'Sing To The Dawn' to my fellow classmates and I hope they will like it too.
(P.S. May I apologize to what I wrote about Felicia in my previous post. Sorry. ='( )

Yay! And its my second post. Lame. I Know. XD
Okay....so basically...although i read STTD a long long time ago,(i lost my original copy of the book anyways) i cant remember the whole story now and have read it again. Zzz.
And this is what i have to say, short and well...just plain shortness.
STTD is a really nice book and shows gender discrimination. I feel that Mingfong Ho is a really skilled writer and you all should read her other books! I feel that gender discrimanation pratically is wrong and all human beings should be treated equally.(im drifting away from what i wanted to say right?) So back to the review. Actually....the first sentence is all i could think of and well....thats it! XD
And good luck with the rest of the tests!~
(I did not even finish my math paper. T_T)
And lastly , a reminder on what to study for science and geo.
Geo : Timezones , Latitudes & Longtitudes , Rotation & Revolution , Maps , Physical & Human environments and Oceans. (I think so)
Science : Page 1-20 of textbook.

This book is a pretty good read. Minfong Ho wrote this book which is about a young Thai girl named Dawan who has won a scholarship to study in the City. Her father does not approve of Dawan going to the City school to study because he feels that Dawan, being a girl, cannot do anything with good education. Dawan's father had wanted Kwai (Dawan's brother) to carry on studying in the City school so that Kwai can help the village when he comes back after studying. In the end, Dawan was allowed to study in the City but it was quite a sad ending as Dawan missed everything from her village. - Vanessa
Footnotes: Whew.. managed to log in with help from Isabelle. =)) Good luck for common test next week. x_x I am sure I won't do too good.

Basically, i liked sing to the dawn very much but i dislike
Kwai as he is mean selfish and bossy.
Dawan is very lucky to get the chance to go and
study thanks to her father.
As he later decided to let dawan go to the city... Kwai is so self centered........ >.< -.- ~end of review~
